Apple is silent, but unlike throughout the course of the year when it was just assumed Apple was silent because it had been working on new products, this type of silent doesn"t look too good. For the first time in years, the company isn"t bragging about any record number of new iPhone pre-orders. There"s a potentially disappointing lack of sound coming from Cupertino.
In 2010, Apple quickly announced that within 24 hours iPhone 4 pre-orders exceed 600,000. In 2011, iPhone 4S passed one million the same time span. Last year, the iPhone 5 managed to double that to an astounding two million pre-orders in 24 hours. This year... no one knows. It"s possible Apple doesn"t have anything to brag about this time.
The stock slid down further once again today most likely due to the silence. iPhone 5c pre-orders started on Sept. 13 and it looks like the market has taken notice to the fact that it"s been a few days since then without a word from Apple.
There"s one factor that"s worth remembering in all of this though. 2013 is the first year Apple is releasing not one, but two unique iPhone models. Plus, the one that is up for pre-order isn"t even the high-end one. It"s a mid-range smartphone for $99. If pre-order numbers aren"t strong compared to previous years, it"s possible customers are simply waiting for the better iPhone 5s to arrive on Sept. 20.
