Apple acquires Beddit, a sleep tracking company, in health pursuit

In its pursuit to accommodate everything health, Apple has decided to acquire the sleep tracking hardware and software company, Beddit. Anyone who currently owns a Beddit product or uses its software needn"t worry as the product and services support that are currently provided will be maintained for the foreseeable future.

Apple HealthKit and the Beddit mobile app can be optionally paired to sync sleep analysis, heart rate, and respiratory rate to HealthKit, and gender, date of birth, height, and weight from HealthKit to the Beddit app. Now that Beddit has been acquired by Apple, personal data will be collected, used, and disclosed in accordance with Apple"s privacy policy.

Apple stores have been stocking Beddit product since late 2015. Its latest product is the Beddit 3, a thin strip of sensors that goes across the bed and analyses “sleep time and efficiency, heart rate, respiration, temperature, movement, snoring, room temperature, and room humidity.” It is currently priced at $149.95 on Apple"s website.

In recent years, Apple has been pushing more intensively to satisfy the health market, with one of its flagship offerings in this department being the Apple Watch which contains biometric sensors to keep wearers informed of various statistics. Apple likely wants to learn how Beddit tracks its users" sleep patterns to integrate into some of its own products.

At present, the terms of the Beddit acquisition are still unknown.
