Apple has once again announced Back to School offers on new Mac laptops and desktops. In addition to the education discount on new Mac models that"s available year-round, Apple is throwing in a gift card for a limited time to sweeten the deal. However, Apple has decided to change the gift card offer in comparison to previous years. For past Back to School promotions, the gift card included was worth $200 towards the purchase of an iPod product that would be redeemed by mail. This year, however, they are offering a $100 gift card for use in the Mac App Store. This is a clever effort by Apple to drive customers to become more familiar with the App Store and its offerings. Notably absent is perennial student staple Office for Mac. Perhaps this is also an effort by Apple to push customers to use its similar offering, iWork.
The gift card is not restricted to the Mac App Store and it can be used in the iTunes store, iOS App Store, and iBookstore. The offer is available to current college students, parents buying for college students, and staff and faculty of any educational institution. The promotion will run from June 16 to September 20. The offer can be redeemed at any Apple retail store, the online education store, authorized campus store, or over the phone.
