As Microsoft holds its own BUILD developer conference this week, Apple is making plans for its own event for iOS and Mac OS X software creators. Today, the company announced that the 2014 edition of its Worldwide Developer Conference will be held on June 2-6 in San Francisco.
Apple will be handling ticket sales for WWDC a bit differently this year. Instead of just opening up sales at a pre-selected day and time, Apple is letting developers register on the site until April 7. The company will then hold a random lottery to pick people that will be given a chance to purchase a ticket for $1,599. This is most likely due to the fact that many developers never get a chance to buy a ticket since they tend to sell out quickly. In 2013, they sold out in less than two minutes.
Apple will possibly offer the first official information about iOS 8, the next version of its mobile OS for the iPhone and iPad, during WWDC 2014. Apple should also reveal the first details for the next version of Mac OS X for its desktops and notebooks. Apple"s latest version, Mac OS 10.9, also known as Mavericks, was released in 2013 as a free update for the last few versions of OS X.
