While the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will come with iOS 10 pre-installed, Apple released the latest version of its mobile operating system today for some of its earlier devices.
But the iOS 10 rollout hasn"t exactly been a roaring success for everyone. Complaints have been piling up from users around the world on Twitter and beyond, claiming that the update has "bricked" their devices.
Some earlier iOS updates bricked specific devices - for example, iOS 9.3 caused problems for iPads; and Apple was forced to pull iOS 9.3.2 after it disabled 9.7-inch iPad Pro tablets, leaving those devices completely unresponsive.
In the case of iOS 10, the problems do not seem to be confined to one particular device - but not all users attempting to upgrade were affected, and many have successfully installed the update on their devices without issue.
An Apple spokesperson admitted to The Verge that there had been an "issue" with iOS 10 update, but said that it has now been fixed:
We experienced a brief issue with the software update process, affecting a small number of users during the first hour of availability. The problem was quickly resolved and we apologize to those customers.
But while many users have complained that their devices have been "bricked", in most instances, they will be recoverable by connecting the device to a computer and restoring or updating from iTunes.
You can find out how to do so via this guide on Apple"s support site.
