Apple attempts to block the sale of some Samsung products

The legal battle between Apple and Samsung is reaching a new phase. On Friday Apple filed a motion in court in an attempt to block the sale of three Samsung made smartphones along with its Galaxy Tab 10.1 inch tablet. News.com reports that the injunction also includes the Galaxy S 4G, the Infuse 4G, and the Droid Charge smartphones. Apple claims that the Samsung products "infringe on three of its design patents, and one utility patent."

In its filing with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California Apple states, "A preliminary injunction is necessary not only to protect Apple"s rights, but also to protect the public interest. Because Apple has demonstrated a likelihood of success on its claims, the public interest would be served by prohibiting Samsung from infringing Apple"s patents." Apple adds that it reserves the right to add two more upcoming Samsung products to its injunction request, the Galaxy S 2 smartphone and the 8.9 inch version of the Galaxy Tab tablet. So far Samsung has not responded to Apple"s injunction.

This is just the latest salvo in the court battle between the two companies. It started back in April when Apple claimed that Samsung had stolen the design and UI for some of its smartphones and the Galaxy Tab tablet from Apple"s iOS devices. Samsung counter-sued  Apple claiming the company had violated some of its patents. With Apple now asking the court to stop the sale of Samsung"s products it"s clear that Apple is breaking out the big legal guns in this patent fight.
