Apple has now managed to hit another milestone, this time they have become the worlds fourth largest phone maker. In details released by the IDC today it was confirmed that they have now sold just over 14.1 million phones this year compared to 7 million at the same point last year, a doubling.
The results have Nokia still in first place with 110.4 million units shipped, Samsung in second place with 71.4 million and LG in third with 28.4 units. Nearly all of the manufactures listed had showed some gains apart from LG who showed quite a large drop in sales compared to everyone else, this is less of a surprise though due to poor reviews and a worse than expected set of handsets being released from them over the past year.
Once more everyone can thank Google"s android system for the much-improved sales of smartphones in general thanks to high sales of HTC and motorola devices not just in America, but across Europe. Samsung has been one of the main advocates of the Android operating system on their mobile devices and good reviews of their Samsung Galaxy device has managed to greatly improve their overall sales this year. This is again a sign that the antennagate scandal that hit Apple earlier on in 2010 has not stopped consumers from purchasing the handset.
