Apple begins selling the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus SIM-free in the US, from $649

Apple"s iPhone 6 and 6 Plus went on sale in September, but while the handsets have been available SIM-free in many other parts of the world, the company has only been selling them directly to consumers in the US with a carrier service plan.

However, as iDownloadBlog reports, Apple has today started selling its big new iPhones SIM-free and unlocked in the US, at the following prices:

iPhone 6

  • 16GB - $649
  • 64GB - $749
  • 128GB - $849

iPhone 6 Plus

  • 16GB - $749
  • 64GB - $849
  • 128GB - $949

The new unlocked iPhone 6 gets the model number A1586, while the 6 Plus is designated A1524.

Both iPhones remain hugely popular with consumers, and - unsurprisingly - demand is said to have been especially high over the holiday season. Sales of the two handsets topped ten million units in the first weekend of availability alone.

The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus will soon be joined by the new Apple Watch - perhaps in just a few weeks - with prices starting at $349, and rumored to reach as much as $5,000 for more premium models.
