Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak is usually a first adopter for any new iPhone that comes out. As a matter of fact, he already has an iPhone 8. However when the iPhone X goes on sale on October 27, he will not be rushing out to get one.
"I"d rather wait and watch that one. I"m happy with my iPhone 8 — which is the same as the iPhone 7, which is the same as the iPhone 6, to me," Wozniak said while attending the Money 20/20 conference. "For some reason, the iPhone X is going to be the first iPhone I didn"t — on day one — upgrade to. But my wife will, so I"ll be close enough to see it."
The iPhone X, unveiled in September for $999, will be Apple"s top of the line smartphone when it finally releases on November 3, but Wozniak told CNBC that he is skeptical of the Face ID feature, which he fears will not work as intended. Indeed, speculation is that the TrueDepth camera"s 3D sensing technology may be at the heart of production delays for the device in advance of pre-orders beginning on Friday.
Analysts are saying the production issues should end soon, and Apple has already started the pre-approval process for its Upgrade Program.
Despite Wozniak"s concerns, it appears that Apple is confident enough in Face ID to already be considering eliminating the Touch ID option in favor of facial recognition in its 2018 line of phones.
