As everyone knows, video killed the radio star, but the smartphone hasn"t quite killed the portable music player yet, despite its best efforts. The iPod range is perhaps the most famous of all such devices, and Apple has now made some changes to the range in an effort to prolong its life in an increasingly smartphone-focused world.
The iPod touch 32GB and 64GB models both get price cuts from today; the 32GB model drops from $299 down to $249, while the 64GB version gets a tasty $100 price reduction, and is now priced at $299.
The 16GB model is replaced by a version that now includes the same features as those with more storage capacity. Until today, the 16GB iPod touch was only available in one color and lacked the rear camera available on its roomier siblings. It now includes the same 5MP iSight rear cam, and color options are now unified for all models regardless of their onboard storage.
Not to be left out of the discounting action, the 16GB model also gets a price cut, albeit a more modest one, down to $199 from its previous $229 level.
