Apple did not layoff retail employees, made mistakes in staffing model

A few days ago, rumors hit the Internet that claimed Apple was laying off recently hired employees at some of its retail store locations, along with cutting back hours for some of its part-time workers. Now Apple has admitted that it made some mistakes in how it handles staffing at its stores, according to a leaked memo.

The Wall Street Journal reports that, in a memo to Apple Store leaders, the company"s senior vice president of retail, John Browett, told them that Apple was trying out a new staffing formula for its stores. However, that formula resulted in some Apple Store employees having their hours cut and leaving some stores understaffed.

Browett reportedly said in the memo that Apple has gone back to its older staffing formula. He added that no one was actually laid off in any of Apple"s stores and that it continues to hire new staff members. In a statement, an Apple spokesperson said, "Making these changes was a mistake and the changes are being reversed."

The rumors about layoffs at Apple Stores hit the Internet just a few weeks before Apple is rumored to launch the next version of the iPhone, along with a possible seven inch version of its iPad tablet.
