Apple expected to unveil new iPhone and iPad on March 15

Apple is said to be preparing to unveil a new iPhone and iPad, along with Apple Watch updates, on March 15. Details of the new devices have emerged in recent weeks, amid rumors that they would both be announced before the end of this quarter.

9to5Mac had previously revealed that Apple would make its latest product announcement during the week beginning March 14, and now cites unnamed sources as having identified the 15th as the date for that unveiling - but it"s not yet clear if the company will be hosting an actual launch event, or if it will simply issue a press release.

The new iPhone 5se will slot into Apple"s handset range below the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, which it launched last year. The device is expected to start at $450, featuring a compact design and 4-inch display. It"s set to replace the iPhone 5s, and will reportedly include an updated processor, the same 8MP (rear) and 1.2MP (front) cameras as the iPhone 6, networking components from the iPhone 6s, and NFC support for Apple Pay.

The iPad Air 3 is also set to be unveiled at the event, replacing the Air 2, which made its first appearance in October 2014. Along with various hardware updates - which are said to include a 4K display, 4GB of RAM and improved speakers - the device will reportedly have a Smart Connector, potentially paving the way for a similar Smart Keyboard accessory to the one designed for the larger iPad Pro tablet.

Alongside the new phone and tablet, the Apple Watch is expected to get a software update, as well as various new straps/bands for the device.
