Earlier this week, a number of apps on Apple"s iOS and Mac app stores were unable to run after they were updated by their users. The culprit was something in the app stores themselves. Late on Thursday, Apple sent out a statement saying they had fixed the issue.
The statement, according to AllThingsD.com, said, "We had a temporary issue that began yesterday with a server that generated DRM code for some apps being downloaded ...The issue has been rectified and we don’t expect it to occur again."
Apple added that this DRM bug only affected a small number of users. However, Marco Arment, the creator of one of the apps that was affected by the bug, Instapaper, posted up a long list of all of the apps that were hit by the issue on his web site. The list totaled 114 apps before he decided to stop, saying, "Obviously, this is a very widespread problem ..."
This has not been the best week for Apple and its app stores. A malware app was also found on the iOS App Store on Thursday that had been available for anyone to download for a few weeks. Apple quickly removed the malware app after being informed of its nature.
