Apple has killed the MacBook

It has been many quarters since Apple last updated its base MacBook line of laptops. Mixed in with the new release of OS X Lion and an updated MacBook Air, Apple has quietly killed off the white MacBook.

Back on March 28, Neowin questioned what Apple planned to do with that particular line of laptop as it had been many months since the last refresh. Today we are finding out Apple"s intentions are as the standard MacBook is now dead.

The move makes sense as the MacBook Air now fits into the same price point that the previous MacBook had held. Also for Apple, they had two products competing against each other. For Apple, the MacBook Air fits into their premium product category because it is thin and light while the previous MacBook was made of plastic and was in need a redesign.

It was only yesterday that Apple revealed its previous quarters earnings.  For Apple, its latest financial numbers for the quarter that ended on June 30 blew away previous expectations as it announced via a press release it brought in $28.57 billion in revenue, well ahead of analysts" expectations of $25 billion. Net income came in at $7.31 billion for the quarter, well ahead of Apple"s profit of $3.25 billion for the same period a year ago.
