Apple is offering free repairs for devices damaged by the catastrophic rain and flooding in southwestern Japan earlier this month. As spotted by 9to5Mac, the announcement was made via a support page on Apple’s Japanese website.
iPhones, Macs, iPads, iPods as well as Apple Watches are eligible for a free repair, but customers will have to file a request by calling Apple Support at 0120-27753-5 as online requests will not be accepted. They may be required to submit a proof of ownership along with the request as well, and the offer will come to an end late September.
Beats and other accessories sold by the company are not part of this complimentary repair offer. Apple also doesn"t state whether the offer is limited to certain generations of devices, leaving some confusion for consumers.
Apple does mention that, as this service is relying on courier services, wait time for the pickup and delivery of devices may be longer than usual in areas affected by the floods.
It’s worth noting that this support goes against Apple’s standard repair policies which exclude any devices affected by water damage. Japan is currently bracing itself for Typhoon Jongdari, which is expected to make landfall later this weekend, and track towards western Japan, near the regions worst hit by the flooding.
