Apple has released a new ebook that aims to teach students job critical skills in application development in the Swift programming language. The documentation is now available for download from Apple’s iBook store, for free. The course will guide students on how to build fully functional apps over the course of the year.
In the announcement, Tim Cook, said:
We’ve seen firsthand the impact that coding has on individuals and the US economy as a whole. The app economy and software development are among the fastest-growing job sectors in America and we’re thrilled to be providing educators and students with the tools to learn coding. Community colleges play a critical role in helping students achieve their dreams, and we hope these courses will open doors for people of all ages and backgrounds to pursue what they love.
The new curriculum will be taught in six community college systems which cater for half a million students across the US. The course will be taught starting in the upcoming academic year. Local businesses will also offer students from different campuses mentoring and internships.
The colleges included in the list of those delivering the curriculum include Alabama Community College System, Columbus State Community College, Harrisburg Area Community College, Houston Community College, Mesa Community College, and San Mateo Community College District. Some high schools across the country will also deliver the curriculum.
