The third generation of the iPad received some negative publicity when it was discovered that it generated a lot more heat when playing certain high end games. Now there"s word that the WiFi only models of the new iPad may have some wireless issues. The problems have been reported on Apple"s support forums by a number of users.
According to 9to5Mac.com, the situation has Apple"s attention. Indeed, a leaked document from the company posted on the site has Apple informing retail stores that they should "capture" (their term for removing) any WiFi only units of the new iPad that exhibit any issues with the WiFi connection. This is apparently a hardware problem and not just something that can be fixed with a software update.
Those issues listed may include the iPad not seeing a WiFi hotspot, intermittent connectivity to a WiFi network or a slow connection. This issue is apparently just with the WiFi only models; the WiFi/3G/4G versions don"t seem to have the same hardware problems.
Apple is requesting that retail stores ship any WiFi iPad units back to the company where they will be replaced. It"s currently unknown if Apple will ask for a recall of any WiFi only iPads that have already been purchased.
