Apple may have ceased development of networking products, shifts resources to other areas

While it might not be Apple"s most well-known product, the company has offered and produced wireless networking devices since the late 90"s. Over the years, its networking line has been refined to provide added benefits for those that paired it with Apple products like an iPad or MacBook. After producing networking products for over a decade, it now looks like Apple might finally be giving up on the product category, as it is being reported that the company has abandoned development of its AirPort products.

According to Bloomberg, Apple began shutting down the wireless team over the past year, reassigning the staff to other projects. This news doesn"t come as a complete surprise, as the AirPort routers have not received a refresh since 2013 - while competitors like Linksys have continuously offered the latest when it comes to speed and range. It is unknown when and if Apple will make an official announcement, but for the meantime, the AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule are all still currently available from Apple"s website and other retailers.
