Previous rumors surrounding the upcoming iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max suggested that the devices would be rocking a display with a 120Hz refresh rate. However, a display analyst claims this may not happen after all.

Ross Young, Founder and CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, has cited sources claiming that there"s no evidence the iPhone 12 Pro models will come with ProMotion 120Hz displays. Instead, the high refresh-rate panel will reportedly ship with next year"s models. He shared via Twitter a list of smartphones that are rumored to feature a 120Hz display and launch this year.

None of our contacts could corroborate iPhone 12 Pro models as 120Hz. They told us 2021. So, they are off our latest 120Hz list.. pic.twitter.com/uTQ7uinMUQ

Young already suggested in May that Apple won"t adopt ProMotion display until it implemented a low-power LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) display technology to help save battery life, which allegedly won"t happen until 2021. The analyst claimed that iPhones can take advantage of 120Hz displays when these devices switch to LTPO panels.

Rumors about 120Hz refresh rates coming to the iPhone 12 Pro displays first surfaced last year, courtesy of leakster Ice universe. It made sense, seeing as this feature has already been a major part of the iPad Pro and several Android phones for quite some time now. While the latest rumor appears to contradict that, it must be taken with a pinch of salt like usual.
