Apple might announce a new iPod line-up in August

Apple may be holding a press conference sooner than expected, the conference is rumored to be held to reveal an all new line-up of iPods that may be released late this month or early next month.

MacMagazine on Friday said that Apple will hold the event on August 16th or 17th, much sooner than the expected September time frame.

This goes in line with recent rumors of a mass overhaul of old iPod units, with a new iPod shuffle with touch screen and a new iPod Touch with features from the iPhone 4, including a front facing camera for Facetime, a rear camera with a flash and gyroscope functionality.

These rumors have been picking up momentum in recent times, with the above revisions and third party cases all showing up around the web. Furthermore, a 64 bit version of the iLife suite is set for release, it may include iPhoto, GarageBand and iWeb.

A ‘mystery’ application is also set to be added to the package, at the expense of the iDvd application that be may be heading for separate download like the iMovie HD application.

At last year’s event that was held on September 9, the iPod Nano with camera and FM tuner was announced. It is very likely that the hardware revisions are true, but it is unclear whether the August conference dates are true or not, and only time will tell.
