Apple now accepting iOS 4 apps for review

MacRumors reports that Apple is now accepting developer builds of apps that have been updated for the newly dubbed, iOS 4. The updated mobile OS introduces over 1500 new APIs, including many that will provide developers with better and easier ways to accomplish the goals of their apps. It will also bring the much needed software support for new features coming in iPhone 4.

Most applications will work fine without being updated, but developers who want their apps to take advantage of iOS’s new multitasking infrastructure, or any other new APIs, will have to submit updates for approval.

In his WWDC keynote address, Steve Jobs also encouraged developers to go “under the hood” and update any graphical elements to take advantage of iPhone 4’s “retina display.”

Despite Jobs’s insistence that 95% of all submissions are approved in 7 days, developers looking to have their apps ready for the launch of iOS 4 should submit them as soon as possible.

iOS 4 will be available on June 21st as a free update for compatible iPhone and iPod Touch devices. Availability for iPad is slated for later in the year.
