iPhone users started complaining last year about a "No Service" issue with their handsets. Apparently, that number has grown over the last several months, as Apple has finally decided to address the issue.
The problem appears to be centered on iPhone 7 devices "due to a component that has failed on the main logic board," the company said in a support post. Apple has decided to replace the affected units whether they are in or out of warranty:
These affected units were manufactured between September 2016 and February 2018 and sold in China, Hong Kong, Japan, Macao, and the U.S. See below for iPhone 7 model numbers that are covered in this program.
The program affects the following model numbers: A1660 and A1780 (China), A1660 (U.S., Macao, and Hong Kong), and A1779 (Japan). The model number can be found on the back of the phone under the iPhone branding.
The repairs will be free. Apple will check its records and email people who may have had to pay for repairs and reimburse them. If you know you paid for a repair of this issue and don"t get an email from Apple by the end of March, then contact Apple customer service.
Phones can be taken to an authorized Apple Service provider or your nearest Apple Store, or can contact Apple support to arrange to return the phone for repairs. They cannot be returned to your wireless carrier, as they are not participating in the program.
Apple said that you have two years from the date the iPhone 7 was purchased to take advantage of the free repairs.
