To say that many video editing professionals were disappointed with the release last week of Final Cut Pro X is a bit of an understatement. Apple"s latest version of its once popular video editing software suite got slammed by its users for not putting in a number of important features. That includes being able to open and edit work that was done in the last version of the software, Final Cut Pro 7. Now Apple has launched a new FAQ page on its web site that answers some of the concerns users have had with Final Cut Pro X.
The biggest issue with the new version is not being able to work with files made with previous version of the software. In its FAQ page Apple states that Final Cut Pro X is "an all-new project architecture structured around a trackless timeline and connected clips." Because of this and other new features, "there is no way to "translate" or bring in old projects without changing or losing data." Apple does say that users can still "import your media files from previous versions into Final Cut Pro X". User can also continue to work with Final Cut Pro 7 after installing Final Cut Pro X and the previous version will still work with the upcoming "Lion" update for Mac OS X.
The FAQ page also goes over some other features of the software. Some of the missing features are gone for good but others, such as multicam editing, XML export and assigning audio tracks for export will be added to Final Cut Pro X in upcoming updates to the software.
