Apple has been considering a revamp of its News app and service for months now, and a new report indicates one direction the firm could take. Apple is reportedly considering an all in one subscriptions service that will allow users to pay once for access to Apple"s Original TV shows, Apple Music and magazines.
This service will differ from popular offerings like Spotify and Netflix which offer sharply focused music and video streaming services respectively. It will likely be priced higher than Apple Music"s $9.99 price point, but whether the firm will try and push consumers to accept a markedly higher amount like $20 as it did with its $999 iPhones or adopt a more subtle increase isn"t quite clear at the moment.
Apple has been hiring media executives to create original shows for iTunes, but analysts and pundits alike have questioned how the firm would roll these shows out to users without a streaming service. A digital subscription like this offers a clear path forward for the firm.
Google and Amazon offer similar all in one service at the moment, with YouTube Premium and Amazon Prime providing access to Google"s YouTube Premium, YouTube Music and Google Play Music and Prime letting users use Prime Music, Prime Video and Prime Photos.
It"s unclear when Apple will launch this new service, and other salient details like the pricing also remain unavailable at this time.
