Apple"s first minor update to iOS 8 has caused problems for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, with widespread reports of users being left unable to connect to their cellular service after installation, and many reporting that Touch ID functionality has been broken by the update too.
iOS 8.0.1 was launched earlier today to fix some of the bugs from the initial release of the mobile operating system which was rolled out to the public last week. It included fixes for HealthKit, Photos, SMS/MMS data usage notifications and issues with third party keyboards. However, it seems the update introduced more critical bugs than those addressed, leading Apple to pull the update.
Many iPhone 6 users - including Neowin"s Tim Kimberl - tweeted that iOS 8.0.1 rendered the Touch ID useless and that their phones could not connect to cellular networks since the update, which was made available over-the-air.
Users whose handsets have been affected by this short-lived update should backup their data and restore their iPhone 6 or 6 Plus using the "Restore iPhone" feature in iTunes - although this will of course require connecting the device to a computer.
