Apple raising App Store prices in Canada, six other countries

Apple is again raising the standardized price on its App Stores in select countries around the world. The increased prices affects both apps and in-app purchases for users in Canada, Israel, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, Singapore, and South Africa. The changes will take effect over the next 72 hours.

In Canada, the lowest pricing tier will now be CAD$1.39, up from the previous CAD$1.19. However a new "alternative" pricing tier will be introduced at CAD$0.99, for developers wanting to entice users with lower prices. This alternative tier will also apply in New Zealand, at NZD$0.99.

Ongoing in-app subscribers will be notified of the pricing changes to their subscriptions in all of the countries except Russia and South Africa. Users in those two countries will be forced to re-subscribe entirely to the new prices.

Apple regularly updates its App Store pricing tiers outside the U.S. and did so in Canada and Russia around this time last year. The price adjustments typically occur after fluctuations in currency exchange rates, relative to the US dollar, begin to stabilize. The detailed price changes for the latest adjustment are available in PDF format here.
