Yesterday, Apple surprised pretty much everyone by releasing the first developer beta for iOS 13.1. Typically, that wouldn"t show up until a day or two after iOS 13 GM seeds are released, the afternoon after the new iPhones are announced. Those GM seeds usually remove a few features that aren"t quite ready for prime time though, and the features return in the new beta.
Today, the company released the first iOS 13.1 and iPadOS 13.1 public betas. If you"re on the iOS 13 public beta, you should have an OTA update waiting for you.
Now, beta testers won"t have to go through that awkward GM period. In fact, the iOS 13.1 beta adds back a few things that have already been taken away in the iOS 13 beta. These includes the Share ETA button in Maps, Shortcuts Automations, and audio sharing.
As mentioned, this OTA is rolling out to all iOS 13 beta users, so you don"t need to install a new configuration profile. It"s worth noting that if you do not want this update, you should uninstall the profile you have before installing iOS 13.1.
After all, many users simply want to take a break from beta testing once the stable build is out. Also, you won"t be able to use an iCloud backup from iOS 13.1 on iOS 13. Those aren"t backward compatible, so if you"re planning on picking up the new iPhones that will be released in late September, you might want to hold off on the software update.
