Apple releases iOS 10 Developer Beta 8 and Public Beta 7

Apple today seeded a new beta build of iOS 10, for both developers and those on the Public Beta. The specific build number is 14A5346a, but you"ll see it as Developer Beta 8 or Public Beta 7.

The news comes just one week after the company released the last build. As the timing of the betas become more sporadic, it becomes clear that Apple is getting closer to a GM seed. Indeed, the next iPhone is rumored to be launching on September 23, so if Apple sticks to its former patterns, the iOS 10 upgrade would be made available on September 21. Of course, a GM seed would be offered a couple weeks prior to that.

iOS 10 will bring a number of improvements to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod, with Apple calling it the company"s biggest update ever. You"ll find an overhauled lock screen experience, redesigned Music, News, and Maps apps, and loads of new features in the Messaging app, and that"s just the tip of the iceberg.

The release notes show a number of known issues, but it would seem that the list is getting shorter (as it should be). They also note that the one feature missing from this release - as with previous builds - is features that require apps from the App Store, such as extensions in Messages. After all, developers can"t yet submit apps that target the new OS.

If you want to be on the Public Beta, you can sign up here. Remember, you"ll need an iPhone 5, fourth generation iPad, sixth generation iPod Touch or better to be eligible for iOS 10.
