Apple reportedly expanding audio lineup with high-end, over-ear headhpones

Capitalising on the surprise success of the company"s AirPods, Apple has been rumoured to have been working on high-end, over-the-ear, noise-cancelling headphones and a new report from Bloomberg seemingly confirms these whispers.

The report suggests Apple will repeat its strategy with the HomePod in terms of its pricing and target market, with the new headphones from the company priced to match similar high-end audio gadgets from Bose and even the company"s own Beats line. That means a pair of the new headphones may run you anywhere from $350 to $500 based on the pricing of existing products in the market.

As a result, these Apple-branded headphones may cannibalise sales from another wing of the company, though it"s likely that the new addition to Apple"s lineup may serve as a general product for everyone while Beats specialises in catering to the varied needs of different types of buyers.

Alongside noise-cancellation, Apple is also said to be incorporating the wireless pairing technology found on the AirPods.

Bloomberg"s sources suggest the company may launch the new accessory by the end of the year at the earliest, but also cautioned that development of the gadget has been on-off for a while and, thus, may be subject to an overhaul or even scrapped entirely.
