It"s iPhone season. The latest major update for iOS is halfway through its beta cycle, and a new iPhone launch is just a couple of months away. That means that the rumor mill is churning, and if you"re paying attention, there won"t be much left to the imagination when the new devices are announced in early September.
Apparently though, there wasn"t much left for the imagination to begin with, if a new report from 9to5Mac is accurate. Once again, there will be three iPhone models this year, and once again, they"ll include Lightning ports. It seems like every year there are rumors that Apple will switch to USB Type-C, and that rumor seemed even stronger this year after Apple switched up its iPad Pro tablets.
The new "iPhone 11" models will include a new Taptic Engine, which seems like it"s a replacement for 3D Touch. Not much else is known, but it could be designed to work with Haptic Touch, the feature introduced in iOS 13.
As expected, there will be three camera lenses on the two devices that will replace the iPhone XS and XS Max, with the third camera lens being for wide-angle shots. Obviously, this isn"t surprising, since companies like Huawei, Samsung, and even LG are doing the same thing. The lenses will be housed in a square module that looks similar to the mockup that you see in the image above.
Apparently, there will also be a feature called Smart Frame, which will capture the area around the image so you have more room to edit your images after you take them. The front camera is also supposed to get support for 120fps slo-mo video recording.
One thing that wasn"t mentioned in the report is what the camera will be like in the successor to the iPhone XR. Presumably, it will get a second camera lens, which will mean that you won"t have the ability to take a Portrait Mode shot without going to 2X zoom. Not much is known about the cameras though, such as image capture resolution, aperture, and so on.
Apple will announce its new iPhones at an event in early September, likely September 9 or 10.
