Apple announced today that they have officially sold three million iPads in the US in 80 days. Although the iPad is available outside of the US, sales numbers are on a steady increase since it went on sale back in April.
Even though the iPad is available internationally, including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK, with nine more countries coming in July, and additional countries later this year, the iPad is selling strong in its home country.
Apple sold the first million units in 28 days, then the second million milestone after 59 days, and now after 80 days, the iPad has sold three million units.
The iPad has access to over 100,000 applications on the App Store, including 11,000 applications specifically designed for the iPad.
With the release of iOS 4.0, many users with an iPhone or iPod touch are feeling the pinch, by not being able to update their iPad from 3.2 to 4.0, at least until the fall when Apple releases iOS 4.0 for the iPad.
