Apple shows off the Unicode 10 emoji that are coming to iOS and macOS later this year

Today, Apple showed off some of the new emoji that will show up later on this year on iOS and macOS devices. The characters that were shown off are part of Emoji 5.0, which is a subset of the Unicode 10.0 specification.

As for when the new feature will arrive for your favorite Apple devices, that still seems to be up in the air, as Apple didn"t provide anything more specific than "later this year". They"re not currently in the iOS 11 beta, so it seems likely that the firm will wait until the next minor update to the OS, iOS 11.1, as it has done in the past.

Despite the fact that Apple only showed off a handful of new characters, there"s certainly more to come, as the official spec includes 56 new emoji, all of which should be included when the public update is released. These include the conversation-dominating Broccoli, Cup with Straw, and Curling Stone emoji.
