The Apple TV 4K was revealed a couple of weeks ago and made its official retail debut towards the end of last week. While it does offer more than a few new benefits and features over its predecessor, this comes at an increased price, with the box starting at $179; though that might introduce some initial sticker shock for consumers, it appears that Apple hasn"t skimped out when it comes to its construction or its specifications.
In the Apple TV 4K teardown, iFixit found that the streaming box was actually fairly reasonably easy to take apart. In order to get into the device, you must remove the plastic base plate which can be done by unhinging the clips. While this does leave physical impressions in the soft plastic, it wasn"t difficult to do by any means. Once inside, the first thing you"ll see is a new thermal assembly that is presumed necessary to keep things cool when things are running at top load.
As you might expect, there really isn"t much inside the box, with a logic board that houses the A10X processor and 3GB of RAM, doing most of the work. Completing the sandwich of components at the bottom is a power supply. As far as reparability goes, the new Apple TV 4K scores quite high getting an eight out of ten, due to its ease of access to internals and modular components, with the only negative being that all the major components are soldered to the logic board.
If interested in picking up a new Apple TV, you can head to various retailers or order one directly from the Apple website.
