Apple are launching the new device with an App Store in an attempt to make it more appealing. A dedicated Software Development Kit (SDK) was released allowing third-party developers to create apps and games which would run directly on the TV.

Other notable enhancements to the platform are the inclusion of Apple"s voice assistant, Siri and a redesigned Apple TV remote which now includes a Glass Touch surface and a dedicated button to invoke the aforementioned Siri. A single charge will power the Apple TV remote for a up to three months.

The new Apple TV is powered by a 64-bit A8 processor and has support for Bluetooth 4.0, HDML, Ethernet, Wi-Fi and includes an IR receiver. The Apple TV remote connects to the Apple TV via Bluetooth 4.0 and contains an accelerometer and gyroscope, so it can be used as a controller for games.
