Apple Watch and Android Wear devices could gain gesture-based interactions with "Aria"

It"s hard to deny, but smartwatches have brought some form of convenience when it comes to accessing information on the fly. Although the device is meant to mitigate interactions with a smartphone, smartwatches still have a flaw due to their inability to carry out complex commands or navigate without the use of touch.

"Aria" is meant to be a complementary solution to any smartwatch, that will add the ability to navigate menus without the use of touch. The relatively small device will snap onto the band of existing smartwatches and use gestures to navigate. To keep things simple, the Aria will have a total of five different main gestures, but could support up to 20 if required.

While the device is not yet available for sale, the company producing the Aria will be offering two different versions via an upcoming Kickstarter campaign. For most, you"ll most likely be opting for the Bluetooth enabled version that will work universally with all Bluetooth enabled smartwatches. This developer version with SDK will set you back a hefty $169 USD. The second version, priced at $69, will be specifically created for the upcoming Pebble Time. This model will have its own custom strap and will not require additional battery or a Bluetooth connection.
