Today, Apple announced its WWDC 2020 developer conference, and for the first time, it"s going to be an online-only event. As is the case for Microsoft Build, Google I/O, and countless other events, the in-person version of the event is canceled due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 coronavirus.
"We are delivering WWDC 2020 this June in an innovative way to millions of developers around the world, bringing the entire developer community together with a new experience," said Phil Schiller, Appleās senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. "The current health situation has required that we create a new WWDC 2020 format that delivers a full program with an online keynote and sessions, offering a great learning experience for our entire developer community, all around the world. We will be sharing all of the details in the weeks ahead."
The Cupertino firm still hasn"t announced the actual dates of the online event, only saying that it will be in June. Typically, it"s in the first week of the month, although that could be different this year since the format has changed. Apple is also going to commit a million dollars to San Jose companies in an effort to make up for lost revenue.
While there"s a lot that happens at WWDC for developers, the conference is also where consumers can tune in to find out what new features are in store for the software updates that will arrive later this year. You can expect to hear about iOS 14, iPadOS 14, macOS 10.16, watchOS 7, and tvOS 14.
