Apple's Boot Camp doesn't support clean installations of the Windows 10 Creators Update

If you"ve got a Mac that you want to install the Windows 10 Creators Update on, there is something that you should be aware of. Boot Camp isn"t compatible with it, or at least a clean install of the Update.

Apple posted a support page today to explicitly state that you should not attempt to clean install the Creators Update, and if you do, you"ll get a blue screen and then you"ll have to use Boot Camp Assistant to delete the partition and start over. The firm says that it"s working with Microsoft to sort out the issue as quickly as possible.

While installing via an ISO image is out of the question, you"re not without options. Apple recommends that you begin by installing the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, and then use the Update Assistant to upgrade the partition to the Creators Update.

The ability to manually install the update is something that Microsoft began offering yesterday. The official rollout won"t begin until April 11; however, it will take place over several months. The company will push it to newer devices first, particularly ones that it has tested with its OEM partners, so it doesn"t look like Apple will be on that list.

In other words, by the looks of it, the only option for installing the Creators Update on top of the Anniversary Update for Mac users will be the manual option for some time to come. Hopefully, Apple and Microsoft will work out a solution for this problem soon.
