Apple"s much-reported cloud based music service could have had its name prematurely unveiled, information surfacing at Engadget could suggest. Unsurprisingly, one of the supposed names for the service was "iCloud". The name would hardly be surprising considering Apple"s naming conventions for a huge number of their products. The other name that has been suggested might be more of a surprise: CloudMe. Rumors of changes to Apple"s MobileMe service have long since been floating around the internet, but one particular piece of evidence stands out at the time of writing.
A company called Xcerion previously owned a site called iCloud, but recently changed the company name to CloudMe. The timing of the change is potentially a mere coincidence, or Xcerion could theoretically be reserving the domain for Apple to use in the very near future. The header image at the top of this article could suggest CloudMe"s role, should it be Apple"s future cloud service.
With Apple having signed four major record labels to its future service they may wish to push the service as soon as possible. On April 25th, Apple signed an agreement with Warner Music to add the music company to their available repertoire of music companies. The addition of Warner Music to their stable of groups comes alongside reports of two other major companies having been signed. Should this be the case, Apple may be able to release a streaming music service before Google, as Neowin reported previously.
