Apple's HomePod firmware seemingly confirms new 4K Apple TV with Dolby Vision and HDR10

The leaked HomePod firmware keeps proving itself quite useful in providing us with relevant information regarding Apple products. Just a week ago, it possibly confirmed the design of the yet-to-be-released iPhone 8, and now, the code has shown evidence that hints at some specifications of an Apple TV refresh.

Details of the new Apple TV first appeared back in February, when it was reported that the product will feature 4K resolution, "more vivid colors", and will possibly launch this year. Recently, iOS developer Guilherme Rambo tweeted that he had spotted lines of code in the leaked firmware that possibly hint not only at an Apple TV featuring 4K resolution but also high dynamic range (HDR) support for both HDR10 and Dolby Vision.

Essentially, dynamic range is display contrast. HDR broadens that contrast by removing the limitations presented by older video signals and providing information about brightness and color across a much wider range. Although the current Apple TV does not support HDR or 4K resolution, it still boasted record sales.

This latest discovery does seem to indicate that the release of Apple TV isn"t far away. The best people can hope for is that the majority of these features make their way to the final product.
