The time for Apple to reveal its next iteration of iPhone is drawing nigh, with an event all but confirmed for September 12. It now seems that the wait to purchase the new devices won’t be long for customers willing to pay its reported $999 price.
Benjamin Geskin, who has been seemingly accurate about Apple’s leaks so far, has now revealed that the British mobile carrier O2 has notified its staff stating that the iPhone 8 will be available for purchase in retail stores starting from September 22.
The iPhone 8 is expected to be initially available only in limited volumes, as the production has proved to be quite difficult due to manufacturing issues with its display. The fate of Apple’s TouchID fingerprint sensor also remains a mystery at the moment; the company recently acquired a patent for acoustic fingerprint imaging technology, which may be used to replace the old sensor.
Apple is expected to send out press invites for its event this week, confirming the reported September 12 date.
The iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus are also expected to make an appearance at the event; the two devices are likely to offer more subtle improvements over the iPhone 7 for a lesser price than the iPhone 8. In addition, Apple may unveil its new LTE-only Apple Watch and a 4K Apple TV which will reportedly support HDR10 and Dolby Vision. Though unlikely, we might even hear a word or two about Apple"s plans for a video subscription streaming service, especially with all that money the company seems to be pouring into producing its own original programming.
