Apple's latest iPhone 4 problem - Glassgate

Apple"s had its fair share of issues with the company"s latest and greatest iPhone device. We"ve had antennagate, proximity sensor issues, yellow display problems and even camera white balance issues. Are you ready for the latest? Glassgate.

If Apple"s death grip antenna issue isn"t enough for you then there"s a new worry amongst iPhone 4 owners today. Named "glassgate", Gdgt reports that there"s an issue brewing behind the scenes of Apple"s engineering team. Gdgt claims that the iPhone engineering team have been on a quiet lockdown after identifying another potential design flaw following the antenna issues:

"Apple has apparently found that non-bumper style cases -- specifically those that slide onto the iPhone 4, which are occasionally prone to particulate matter getting caught between the rear of the phone and the case -- can cause unexpected scratching that could quickly develop into full-on cracking or even much larger fracturing of the entire rear pane of glass."

Apple reportedly blocked sales of nearly all third-party iPhone 4 cases from its stores, which it has recently reversed for the online stores but not retail ones. Third-party case manufacturers with slide-on cases are waiting to hear if and when Apple plans to stock a full selection of iPhone 4 cases once again. Unfortunately there will still be a large number of cases available to iPhone 4 users whether licensed officially by Apple (before the lockdown) or not. Ironically, iPhone 4 users could do more damage to their phones trying to protect them from scratches and cracks by using a slide-on case.
