Apple's next iPhones said to feature pressure-sensitive 'Force Touch' display

Earlier this week, Apple unveiled the latest addition to its laptop range, claiming that it has "reinvented the notebook" with its new 12-inch MacBook. Say what you like about that, but there are certainly some interesting elements in its latest portable PC.

One such feature is its new "Force Touch" trackpad, which includes pressure sensitivity that can detect how hard you"re pressing down on it, along with tactile feedback through what the company calls its "Taptic Engine". And unsurprisingly, rumors are already suggesting that this technology will feature in the company"s next iPhones.

The Wall Street Journal said that it had spoken with unnamed "people familiar with the matter" in Apple"s supply chain, who also claimed that mass production of components for the next-gen iPhones will begin in May. The new devices are expected to be launched around September or October, around a year on from the announcement of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

If the report proves accurate, the technology could open up some interesting new possibilities for future iOS app design.

Apple is said to be sticking with the current 4.7- and 5.5-inch display sizes of its newest handsets, along with "similar" screen resolutions. However, it is also believed to be adding a new pink color option for the new iPhones, which would join its existing gold, silver and "space gray" models.
