Yahoo may have taken the spotlight this month, but it is still far away from Google who is dominating the search market. ComScore released their monthly statistics showing the rise and fall of the search engine marketshare.
Google"s marketshare dropped from 65.1% last month to 64.4% while Microsoft"s Bing crept up from 11.7% to 11.8%. Yahoo was the only search engine to actually show large gains this month, jumping from 16.9% to 17.7%. Other search engines like AOL dropped from 2.5% to 2.4% and Ask.com dropped from 3.8% to 3.7%.
Yahoo gained marketshare because of their new slideshow feature during search queries. As users scroll through the image results, each image generates a new search query, which is tracked by ComScore. The inflation of queries severely affected the results this month, causing Yahoo to gain for the first time in nearly a year.
