Are some people addicted to having WiFi access?

Is it possible to be addicted to having WiFi access for your laptop, tablet or smartphone? That may be the situation for some people. According to a survey sponsored by the broadband and wireless semiconductor company Broadcom, three out of 10 people who responded to the survey claim they cannot go without WiFi access for more than an hour. 60 percent of the people who are surveyed can"t go without WiFi access for more than a day.

The survey of 900 US residents came up with some other interesting results. For example, 39 percent of those who were survey claim they would give up coffee for WiFi access while another 43 percent would go without chocolate. 57 percent of people would give up posting on their Twitter account for a month for the same access, while 50 percent would give up Facebook for a month for a WiFi connection.

Broadcom is using the results of this survey to promote their upcoming "5G" WiFi products, which in theory should be much faster than current or older WiFi connections. Of course, it"s going to be a while before the new WiFi standard, also known as 802.11ac, will be available to most people. Buffalo Technology was the first company to offer the first 802.11ac supported wireless router earlier this week.
