Deathloop, the Bethesda-published and Arkane Lyon-developed action game, won"t be meeting its original holiday 2020 launch window, as a rather hefty delay has pushed the launch back to the second quarter of 2021.
Arkane Lyon announced the unfortunate news on the Deathloop Twitter page today, stating that the move to working from home has made delivering a polished and quality experience on time a difficult one:
"As we"ve adjusted to work-from-home, we found that delivering this new and exciting experience, at the polish and quality level that defines both an Arkane game and a true next-gen experience, is taking longer than normal. This extra time will allow our team to bring Deathloop"s world to life with as much character and fun as you"ve come to expect from our team."
The game puts players in the shoes of an assassin who is stuck in a time loop, and is tasked with taking out a number of targets in a single life after learning their routines in multiple loops. There is also an interesting multiplayer element where players can invade other player campaigns to take the role of a rival assassin.
Alongside a PC launch, Deathloop was heading in as a console timed-exclusive on the PlayStation 5, skipping the Xbox Series X for the time being. Although the game will now arrive months later, it"s unlikely the exclusivity deal will be altered.
