A modern military shooter game series that has a cult following on the PC has just announced its latest installment. Developer Bohemia Interactive has just announced plans to release ArmA 3 in the summer of 2012. The game will be shown in public for the first time at E3 2011 in Los Angeles June 7-9.
This newest installment takes place on an island in the Mediterranean where a special forces group of NATO members travels to obtain a major secret from the enemy. However something goes wrong and the task force is destroyed leaving just one soldier, Captain Scott Miller, all alone on the island and surrounded by enemy forces. ArmA 3"s single player campaign will allow the player to evolve the player character from a lone wolf into a full fledged military commander in an open ended storyline.
As with the previous two ArmA games, players will be able to control a boatload of different land, air and sea vehicles in ArmA 3. It will also add support for PhysX-based game physics along with a revamped animation system. There will also be multiplayer support in co-op and competitive modes in the game. There will also be a mission editor and mod tools released for folks who want to make their own ArmA 3 misisons.
Even though the game is still a year or so away, Bohemia Interactive has already announced some preliminary PC system requirements for ArmA 3
