Ahead of Computex today in Taiwan, ASUS announced some new gaming devices under its Republic of Gamers brand, including the ROG Phone. Of course, the firm also announced some new gaming laptops, the Strix Scar II and the Hero II.
One of the key features that ASUS pointed out is the slim bezels on the top and sides, which not only provide an immersive experience, but they allow for the 15.6-inch display to sit inside of a device with a smaller footprint. The company says that the new devices are an inch smaller than the Strix GL503. You"ll notice that it still sports a pretty big chin, and that"s meant to provide a comfortable viewing angle.
As you"d expect, the devices also offer Intel"s new eighth-gen H-series Core processors, which are 45W hexa-core chips. It can be configured with up to a Core i7-8750H CPU, and for graphics, the Scar II comes with up to a GTX 1070 with 8GB GDDR5, and the Hero II comes with a GTX 1060 with 6GB GDDR5.
The display is 1080p, and you"ll have the option to configure it with a 144Hz refresh rate, although the lower end Hero II has a 60Hz option as well. Of course, there"s an RGB keyboard, which has four sections for programming colors.
Other specs include up to 32GB DDR4 2666MHz SDRAM and either a 512GB SSD or 1TB HDD. As far as ports go, there"s no Thunderbolt 3, but it does have a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C port, two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports, and a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A port, just to keep things confusing. There"s also HDMI, Ethernet, an SD card reader, and a 3.5mm audio combo jack.
ASUS didn"t announce pricing or availability, but said to contact a ROG representative for more information.
