At IFA 2019 in Berlin today, ASUS unveiled its first 300Hz displays, which the company claims raise the existing standard for high-level esports tournaments by 25%. ASUS demonstrated the advanced displays on several Strix and Zephyrus gaming laptops.
In announcing the new displays, ASUS explained the benefits of higher frame rates:
"Higher frequencies can also improve the experience when the refresh rate is fixed and your FPS drops below the maximum. The delay between refresh cycles is shorter, allowing the display to respond faster to fresh frames produced by the GPU. If you’re running Vsync to eliminate visual tearing, the higher frequency mitigates visible stuttering that can occur when the display is forced to wait until the next cycle to show a new frame."
Rocking the 300Hz displays at IFA 2019 are the 15-inch and 17-inch models of the Strix SCAR III, featuring Nvidia"s GeForce RTX 2070 GPUs complemented by the ROG Boost system. In addition, ASUS also exhibited the same displays on the 15-inch Zephyrus S GX502 and 17-inch Zephyrus S GX701. That latter model, in particular, is set for release in a 300Hz version in October.
Graphics-wise, the Zephyrus S GX502 features a GeForce RTX 2070 GPU with similar ROG Boost clocks and wattage as the Strix model. Additionally, the Zephyrus S GX701 is rocking a GeForce RTX 2080 GPU clocked up to 1230MHz at 100W in Turbo mode.
These models will be on display for the public at IFA 2019 from September 6 to 11. There"s no word yet on pricing, though, for the Zephyrus S GX701 300Hz model nor on the availability of the other models.
