ASUS typically refreshes its VivoBook line of laptops at CES, and this year is no exception. The company is introducing the new VivoBook 14 and 15, as well as new VivoBook S models. There are plenty of configurations available, which might be a little confusing at first.
The new VivoBook 14 and 15 come in both K-series and X-series, though they will launch in North America as VivoBook 14 (F413) and 15 (F513), and VivoBook S14 (S413) and VivoBook S15 (S513), respectively. The differences between the K and X series have to do with the color of the lid, with the K series being available in Indie Black, Hearty Gold, and Transparent Silver, while the X series comes in Cobalt Blue, Dreamy White, and Bespoke Black.
All the laptops come with 10th-generation Comet Lake processors from Intel, but they max out at a Core i7-10510U, so you only get four cores. For graphics, the new laptops can be configured with the "latest GeForce GPU", though ASUS isn"t very specific about what that is. The battery is 42Wh on both sizes, and they both have Full HD displays.
You can configure them with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, with Intel Optane memory as a separate option - though that will max out the SSD storage at 512GB. Rounding out the similarities between the two sizes, both laptops have an increased key travel distance of 1.4mm for added comfort, and the Enter key is colored yellow around the keycap, making it stand out.
If you opt for one of the 15-inch models, you get an additional option for HDD storage up to 2TB. The larger size also accommodates a full-size keyboard and ASUS NumberPad 2.0. The 14-inch model misses out on the HDD, and while it doesn"t have a physical number pad, it comes with NumberPad 2.0, which turns your touchpad into a number pad with the click of a button.
As for the ASUS VivoBook S series, there are models in 13-, 14- and 15-inch sizes. As you might expect, the latter two are very similar to the VivoBook S14 and S15 mentioned above, but there are some differences, and the model numbers are S433 and S533. For one thing, these models don"t offer the Core i3 option of the two mentioned above, but they still max out at a quad-core Core i7. For graphics, there"s a GeForce MX250, which might be what"s in the models mentioned above, too.
There"s no option for a 1TB SSD on these models, and the RAM still maxes out at 16GB. However, there"s a larger 50Wh battery inside.
The VivoBook S13 S33 is actually the model that differs the most in terms of specs. It comes with Intel"s Ice Lake processors instead of Comet Lake, though again, it maxes out at four cores and eight threads. It also has newer graphics from Nvidia, either the MX330 or MX350. Everything else is the same as the VivoBook S14 S433.
The VivoBook S13 comes in either Indie Black or Dreamy White colors, and the S14 (S433) and S15 (S533) models also have the option for Resolute Red and Gaia Green.
All of these laptops will be available in early 2020, but pricing details weren"t given.
