Asus to update some Transformer pads to Jelly Bean

It looks like even more previously released Android products will get an update to the new Android 4.1 OS, otherwise known as Jelly Bean. Google has already offered updates to the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S smartphones, and plans to do the same with the Motorola Xoom tablet. HTC has also confirmed it will apply a Jelly Bean update to the HTC One X, One XL and One S smartphones at some point.

Now Engadget reports that Asus will also offer an Android 4.1 update to at least three of its Transformer tablets. In a statement, the company said, "The ASUS Transformer Pad, ASUS Transformer Pad Prime and ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity are all scheduled to receive Android 4.1 updates in the coming months."

Asus was non-committal about other Android products getting the Jelly Bean update, stating, "We are still investigating Jelly Bean updates for other devices, but we are not in a position to confirm whether any other products will be eligible for an update at the moment."

Of course, Asus is the manufacturer of the first product that has Android 4.1 out of the box, the Nexus 7 tablet. Sales of the tablet, sold directly by Google, have already exceeded the supply. In particular, the 16 GB version is currently unavailable from Google.
